# The Drowner’s Affections This is a two-item set consisting of a spear and a net. They can be wielded separately. Only the spear requires attunement. For balance purposes, the spear is benchmarked against the Vorpal Sword. ## Drowner’s Kiss *Legendary weapon (spear). Requires attunement.* This fell spear was grown from coral and fish bone. Seawater constantly drips from its three-pronged head. You have a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls made using this weapon. While attuned to it, your hair and skin are perpetually wet with brine, and you gain a swim speed equal to your walking speed. When you use this weapon to attack a creature that must breathe air, and you roll a 20 on the attack roll, you can flood the creature's airways with seawater. The creature immediately loses all its breath and is poisoned. Additionally, it drops to zero hit points at the beginning of its next turn if it remains unable to breathe underwater. A creature is immune to this effect if it has legendary actions. Such a creature instead takes an extra 6d8 poison damage from the hit. ## Drowner’s Embrace *Legendary item (net).* This net was woven from a substance that has the appearance and texture of weathered copper, yet has the flexibility of sinew. It has six charges. It regains one charge each time a creature that must breathe air is killed by the Drowner’s Kiss. When you take the attack action, you can replace one of your attacks with throwing this net at a creature within 30 feet that you can see. You must expend the required number of charges to do so. The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw (DC 8 plus your Dexterity modifier and Proficiency Bonus) or be restrained. | Target Size | Charges | |-------------|---------| |Medium|0 charges| |Large|1 charges| |Huge|2 charges| |Gargantuan|6 charges| The target or a creature within 5 feet of it can take an action to make a DC 17 Strength (Athletics) check, ending the restrained condition on a success. If the restrained creature begins its turn and the Drowner’s Kiss is underwater, on solid ground, or held by a creature that is underwater or on solid ground, the net moves up to 30 feet in a straight line toward the spear, taking the creature with it. The net can move this way only through water or across a solid surface. The net cannot move through creatures or barriers and stops early on any obstruction.
