# Codex Perplexus *Legendary Item. Requires attunement by a wizard.* This peculiar spellbook holds the writings of many wizards across the ages, but it keeps each wizard’s work isolated behind a mind-bending magical cipher that vexes even the most powerful minds. **Arcane Grimoire, +3.** While you are holding this book, you can use it as a spellcasting focus for your wizard spells, and you gain a +3 bonus to the spell attack rolls and saving throw DCs of those spells. You can use this book as a spellbook. In addition, when you use your Arcane Recovery feature, you can increase the number of spell slot levels you regain by 1. **Infinite Pages.** Despite its unassuming dimensions, this book never runs out of space. By rifling through it, you can always find what you’re looking for, whether that is a page you wrote in before, a new blank page, or a page containing another wizard’s writings. You can search for a page based on a general description. If a page matching that description exists, you will find it. For example, searching for “an omelette recipe from a wizard who loved, loved, loved orange soda” might lead you to a page of culinary notes left by the wizard Kel. **Deciphering a Page.** If you have the book open to a page containing another wizard’s writings, you may attempt to decipher its contents. To do so, roll an ability check using your Intelligence. If the page contains a spell, the DC of the check is 15 + the level of the spell. Otherwise, the DC is 20. This process takes a number of minutes equal to the DC of the check. If you successfully decipher a page, it becomes readable to you and is permanently added to your section of the book. If the page contains a spell, it is added to the list of spells you know. If you fail to decipher the contents of the page, you immediately suffer the following effects: - You gain one level of exhaustion. - You are unable to cast spells other than cantrips until you finish a long rest.
